A-listers attend ‘awesome‘ Coldplay gig
Could a band possibly be too big for Glastonbury?
So, Coldplay could be the band for you.
Scaffolders rise, security personnel stand atop emergency vehicles, and the real Tom Cruise, with Gillian Anderson and Simon Pegg, watches from a viewing platform.
On Fix You, they even have Michael J. Fox on guitar.
Some fields were barely at one-third filled while A-list performers failed at other stages at Worthy Farm.
It would appear that everyone is craning their necks to catch a peek of the most altruistic band in rock.
And Coldplay never let you down.

During their two-hour set, the band blasted through Yellow and Fix You, among other hits.

From a vantage point offstage, Tom Cruise took in the set.
They have the same grasp of the brief as Dua Lipa from Friday night: Bringing your standard festival equipment to Glastonbury is not going to cut it. A unique vibe is required.
The first one is yellow. Indeed, yellow. Normally, a band would save this song until the encore.
Hits like “Higher Power,” “Paradise,” “The Scientist,” “Hymn For The Weekend,” and “Viva La Vida” will keep coming for the next hour. All of the sets are stacked.
However, it is not all. Chris Martin sees it as his personal job to communicate with each and every one of the audience members.
That’s why everyone gets one of those wristbands that makes the entire field glow like an LED screen. For that reason, every five minutes, there will be fireworks. This is why you’ll hear the word “woaaaaah” in a lot of their songs; it’s catchy enough for even the most casual listener to join in.
Those who have spent the day waiting near the front barricades are thanked by Martin during The Scientist.
I can’t believe you guys managed to stay dry, he says while laughing.
He does, however, give credit where credit is due, to “everyone in the middle of the field” as well as to the “latecomers, five time zones away, in their wellington boots” who arrived late.
All the flags and singing and everything—I appreciate it. “Thank you for allowing us to do this; it is our favorite thing to do in the world.”
You could feel a little lightheaded after seeing the show because it is such a sensory overload with all the lasers, huge balloons, and confetti cannons.
That generosity, though, is what truly distinguishes Coldplay.
It might be criticized by cynics who think it caters to the masses. seems more like generosity to me. evenly was a communal effort.
Their unstoppable array of hits is a plus as well.
A bizarrely neurotic stadium anthem (“am I part of the cure, or am I part of the disease”), Clocks features a whirling piano hook, while Sky Full Of Stars is an absolute sugar rush of pop perfection.
While Coldplay’s Viva La Vida may be about an ousted ruler reminiscing about his glory days, the five-note “oh-ah-woah-oh-oh” hook is what really makes the song memorable, as it continues to reverberate across the Pyramid Stage even after they’ve left.

The performance was a sensory overload.
However, the most interesting part of the show probably occurred in the middle, when Coldplay quickly performed several new songs and deep cuts.
We Pray, featuring Burna Boy of Nigeria and Little Simz of the UK, made its live debut there. Another highlight was a rousing performance of Arabesque, a track from the underrated 2019 album Everyday Life, which featured a blazing saxophone solo by Femi Kuti, an African music legend.
Specifically, the latter showed that Coldplay could do more than just perform stadium rock.
Still, they wasted no time getting back to winning over the crowd with a whirlwind performance of Something Just Like This and My Universe, a duet with K-pop superstars BTS.
Just this month, twenty-five years ago, for their first ever Glastonbury performance, Martin remembered as the band emerged from a backstage area for the encore.
Their performance at the newly constructed band tent was marred by tardiness, incompetence, and utter misery.
Sparks, an acoustic ballad from their first album Parachutes that is never played, was played as a celebration song.
Next came the night’s most memorable event.
The band Coldplay
Just one band, Coldplay, has headlined Glastonbury five times.
Martin began improvising tributes to specific supporters as the cameras panned to the audience.
He sang to one group and said, “Five handsome men in their tracksuits / They’ve made it to the front of the front section.” And they did.
No one showed up today / Pretending to be Coldplay.
Tom Cruise’s Exclusive Review of Coldplay’s Show
Their outfits were straight out of One Direction.
The audience erupted in a yell of approval as the cameras abruptly cut to Sir Michael Eavis, co-founder of Glastonbury, following a few more ditties.
Martin started singing again.
We are writing to express our gratitude, Sir Michael.
“In terms of human beings, you’re unparalleled.
Music has a way of enchanting you.
You’re the best farmer in the world.
“Who, dare I ask, was knighted while wearing shorts?”
Michael J. Fox joined Coldplay on guitar during the Glastonbury Festival’s Pyramid Stage.
During Coldplay’s “Fix You,” Michael J. Fox came out onstage to jam with me.
Actor Michael J. Fox made an appearance right when it looked like that might be the icing on the cake.
Although he was confined to a wheelchair, the audience went absolutely crazy for the actor, who had just published a documentary on his experiences with Parkinson’s disease.
If you asked Martin, “the main reason why we’re in a band” would be the star’s 1985 film Back to the Future. And Fox came on onstage to play peach guitar with him as they performed Fix You.

There must be a watershed moment at Glastonbury every year, and this seemed to be the one for the year 2024.
After appearing as the main attraction at Glastonbury in 2002, 2005, 2011, and 2016, Coldplay headlined the event for the sixth time.
After receiving negative feedback for appearing during the sets of other artists (such as Stormzy and Kylie Minogue), Chris Martin expressed reluctance to return to the festival, according to an interview he gave to the BBC.
“I saw a tweet afterwards which said, ‘You can always rely on him to come on in a tracksuit and ruin everything’,” said he.
That seems like a distant memory now.
Tom Cruise’s review in a single word? I thought it was great.

Prior to Coldplay’s set, Little Simz delivered an electrifying performance.
Little Simz pAnticipation Builds for Sunday’s Headliners: SZA and Shania Twainerformed first on the Pyramid Stage before Coldplay; it was her sole performance in the UK that year, but whatever rustiness she may have had was nonexistent.
The Londoner put on a hip-hop masterclass that showcased her charisma and lyrical prowess.
Silhouette, No Merci, and I Love You, I Hate You all feature the self-made musician standing alone on stage, showcasing her hard-won achievement.
“Are you unaware that I am a divine child?” A solo effort brought her here, she rapped on Silhouette.
The Code, the only new song of the night, continued this subject and featured a masterful clap-back to her critics: “You can move the goalposts and I’ll still keep scoring.”
After she proved herself, she let her guard down a bit, collaborating with Nigerian artist Obongjayar on the smooth Point And Kill and then moving on to slower tracks like Woman and Selfish.
As her act progressed, the noise and anticipation increased. As the song came to a close, the rapper took off her shades and looked out over the crowd, clearly moved.
“I am absolutely livid about this,” she exclaimed. “I’ve been performing music since I was a little kid, and this crowd is the largest I’ve ever played for.”Truly, that is a fantasy.

Newcomers A massive audience flocked to The Other Stage for The Last Dinner Party.
In addition to Cyndi Lauper, whose vocals were hampered by technical difficulties, indie band Keane celebrated the 20th anniversary of their debut album Hopes and Fears, which peaked at the top of the charts, and performed on Saturday at the Pyramid Stage.
As the crowd sang along with smash singles including “Somewhere Only We Know,” “Bedshaped,” and “Everybody’s Changing,” lead singer Tom Chaplin declared, “It changed our lives.”
Pop sensation Camila Cabello, whose eccentric set had her riding a BMX, was among the many interesting acts performing on The Other Stage, which also featured indie pop sensation Bloc Party and newcomers The Last Dinner Party.

Despite the smaller crowd at the West Holts stage, Jessie Ware delivered an energetic performance.
On one hand, the Woodsies tent was rocking with a not-so-secret Kasabian show, and on the other, pop superstar Jessie Ware headlined West Holts, where the attendance was underwhelming despite her infectious disco hits. (Coldplay is to blame).
But she gave it her all, thrilling her devoted audience as she hot-stepped through Freak Me Now’s goofy disco groove while wielding a microphone stand that doubled as a dominatrix’s whip.
“I’m here to have a good time, not to earn a good time,” he remarked.
“She gave us pure joy.”
On the other hand, Disclosure headlined The Other Stage and featured Sam Smith on Latch; on The Park Stage, South Korean DJ Peggy Gou energized the crowd for the all-night dance arenas with a set that included a cameo from Sophie Ellis Bextor, singing Murder On The Dancefloor.
That is to say, no one could possibly listen to all that music in just one day, what with all the different genres and styles available.
R&B singer SZA will headline Sunday’s Pyramid Stage, and legend slot performer Shania Twain is sure to bring in the largest crowd of the weekend during her mid-afternoon set.
