Photos of the man who was found in a suitcase crime have been released.
Police discovered suitcases with human remains and named it suitcase crime on Bristol’s Clifton Suspension Bridge and published images of the man they were searching for. Just before midnight on Wednesday, witnesses spotted a man behaving suspiciously with luggage on the bridge.
Under ten minutes after the police arrived, the man had already departed with the bag; shortly after, officers located another bag. The Avon and Somerset Police are searching for a dark, bearded, gold-eared suspect.
Officers described him as wearing a black Adidas baseball cap, pants, jacket, trainers with thick white soles, and a rucksack. Police are requesting anyone with information that could assist them to call 0800 056 0944. The initial investigation revealed that a taxi transported the individual to the bridge. Officers have taken possession of the taxi driver’s vehicle, and he is currently assisting them.
A witness reported to the BBC that he observed suitcases on the bridge when a bike chased away a person believed to be the suspect.
During a news conference this afternoon, Cdr. Vicks Haywood-Melen requested anyone who could recognize the individual to get in touch with them. “This is a very disturbing incident, and I fully recognize the concern it will cause in our communities,” she said. “Our immediate priority is to locate the man who took the suitcases to the bridge, identify the deceased, and inform their next of kin. It is a very upsetting incident.” She added that the individual was observed leaving towards Leigh Woods, and searches utilizing CCTV are still ongoing. On Wednesday night, a police chopper flew over the bridge. Officers stationed on the Bristol side are redirecting people crossing the Suspension Bridge on foot. Additionally, they have closed the visitors center to facilitate the ongoing investigation.
Cdr Hayward-Melen emphasized that finding the man responsible for transporting the bags to the bridge. Confirming the identities of the victims, and notifying their relatives are our top priorities. If they want any assistance, specialist cops are prepared to give it to them.
She went on to say that later on Thursday, a postmortem would be conducted.
One of the students on the bridge, Reece Wright, 20, was a student at the University of Bristol.
A “frightening experience” was what he found it to be. He recounted the sight of abandoned bags on the bridge as a biker pursued a person believed to be the criminal.
“No one saw it coming. Here I was, attempting to make sense of it all. At first, I believed a fight had broken out, but then I noticed the suitcase and thought it was strange.
“We kept on walking across through the Leigh Woods part towards Burwalls when we saw another suitcase, a silver one.”
