Temperatures may reach as high as 32C, prompting heat health warnings to be issued for a large portion of England.
UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) advisories will last until Wednesday and cover England except the east and west.
The organization warns that the heat may have impacts on healtcare providers, particularly in London and the South East.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather advisory for much of England and Wales due to thunderstorms this week.
According to the UKHSA, there could be a “observed increase in mortality across the population.” Particularly in the 65-plus age group or those with health conditions. But impacts may also be seen in younger age groups” as a result of the heat wave.
Tuesday might reach 32 degrees Celsius in southeast England and London, according to the Met Office.
The weatherman predicted that several regions will see four or five degree higher-than-average temperatures for the middle of July.
Only the far northwest of Scotland and portions of Northern Ireland may get cloud and rain on Monday and Tuesday.
The hottest day of the year was July 19 at 31.9C in St. James’s Park in central London.
A heatwave in England is three days of temperatures over a Met Office-set threshold, which varies across the UK.
That point is 28 degrees Celsius in the Greater London Area. The temperature is 25 degrees Celsius across the majority of northern and western England, as well as Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales.
It will be the first July without temperatures reaching 25 degrees Celsius in Scotland since 2010 if no part of the country experiences this on Tuesday.
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms on Thursday, which is anticipated to break the drier weather for much of the UK.
A red notice has been issued for much of northern England, portions of Wales, and the majority of southern and central England, advising that “lightning, hail and gusty winds” may cause considerable inconvenience.
Starting at 12am on Thursday, it will remain in effect until 11.59pm.
Throughout the remainder of the month, the south-east may anticipate drier and brighter weather, while the north-west can anticipate breezy conditions.
Midway through August should provide a more generally settled phase.
