Young sailing crews will compete in a race across the Channel.
The Guernsey-Dorset sailing race will feature about 130 youth sailors. Tournament will happen concurrently.
The sailors’ race will start in Saint Peter Port on Tuesday at 14:00 and head to Poole. Expect competition between them.
The Association of Sail Training Organizations (ASTO), which organizes the competition, said it expected it to take two days. This information was communicated to the audience by the event organizer.
To clarify, the race was one of the events celebrating the Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s 200th anniversary.
The event organizers said less than half of each boat’s crew will be under 25.
All of the boats in this event are owned and operated by ASTO, which offers sail training. Through this program, young people learn to sail and develop collaboration skills.
According to ASTO CEO Kerry McMillan, “this race was inspired by the RNLI’s 200th anniversary with the aim of raising awareness of the impact that sail training and adventure afloat geney have on young people while also highlighting the value that these activities provide.” The RNLI is commemorating its 200th anniversary.Thus, in summary,
