Exhausted but happy’: Team GB returns from the Olympics.
Following the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, the GB team returned to the UK “exhausted but happy” with 65 medals.
The sportsmen and women reached the Eurostar terminal on Monday at London’s St. Pancras station.
Silver medallist in women’s skeet shooting Amber Rutter told the BBC, “To be back celebrating with Team GB fans, the noise is just incredible, and the fact everyone’s turned out to see us is really amazing.” I concur.
I can feel the weariness, but the joy radiates from every face. It is indeed a remarkable moment.
Just like in London 2012, Great Britain brought home 14 golds, 22 silvers, and 29 bronzes in Paris. Along with London 1908 (146 medals) and Rio 2016 (67 medals), it is the third-highest total for Team GB at a single Games.
But their seventh-place finish and record-low gold medal total are their worst since the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.
Bryony Page, a gymnast, also went back to her home country after winning a total of three medals: one on trampoline, one in Rio in 2016 and one in Tokyo in 2021.
Along with triathlete Alex Yee, the 33-year-old carried the Team GB banner at the closing ceremony.
“It hasn’t sunk in,” Page told BBC Sport. Thanks to my coach, I have all my life to let everything sink in. No matter what happens, I will always be an Olympic champion.
It has been an incredible experience to be a part of these Games. It is truly remarkable to be a part of this squad for the third time.
Rutter, who welcomed a child into her family in April, expressed her utmost joy at returning home with an Olympic medal.
Saying, “It feels incredible,” she continued. It’s something I never imagined I’d be able to do, so I’m overjoyed.
“I am overjoyed to be returning. Seeing this little guy is the most amazing thing.
Feelings of “Right now, I’m really happy with how everything’s gone,” Tom Daley said after publicly announcing his retirement from diving following his fifth Olympic medal in Paris. Saying goodbye to a sport is never easy, in my opinion. There is a lot to think about, but I believe now is the correct moment.
This year was a huge bonus because I got to compete in front of my kids and family. It is my honour to carry the flag. Every item on the bucket list has been checked off, so yeah.
